All You Need to Know About Carrier Oils

Your skin is the largest organ of your body and this makes it a great place to apply essential oils to for medicinal benefit. When I apply essential oils to my skin, I typically apply them to the area of concern. If I have a headache, I apply oils to my head. If my stomach hurts, I apply oils there. If my back hurts, I apply oils to my back, etc. I also apply essential oils to my wrists, behind my ears, on my neck, and on the bottoms of my feet (these are always great places to apply essential oils when you aren't sure where to apply them).
Why dilute essential oils with a carrier oil?
Some essential oils are recommended to apply “neat” (this means that you drop a few drops of oil out of the bottle and apply it directly to your skin). Other essential oils are suggested to be diluted with a carrier oil first (the label on each Young Living essential oil bottle will tell you whether that essential oils needs diluting). Thyme, Cinnamon Bark, Lemongrass, and Oregano are some of the strongest essential oils and are typically diluted (although many other Young Living essential oils should also be diluted).
When I first started using essential oils, I was annoyed that I had to dilute my essential oils. Now, I know that having to dilute my essential oils is a good thing! I now know that carrier oils help the body absorb my essential oils AND extend the life of my essential oils. Young Living essential oils only contain the oils from the plant they are harvested from (they are chemical free and carrier oil free). This means that you are getting more bang for your buck in a bottle of Young Living essential oil. A bottle of undiluted essential oil from Young Living is certainly going to last longer than a bottle of essential oil that is premixed with a carrier oil (like some other essential oils on the market). By diluting your own essential oils, you can tweak the dilution ratio based on your preference of how strong you would like that essential oil to be for topical application. Being able to adjust the dilution ratio of carrier oil to essential oil allows essential oils to be used on even the most sensitive skin, as well as on babies and small children. Carrier oils allow you to spread just a few drops of essential oil to a large area of the body (because a few drops is usually all you need). Carrier oils also make it possible for essential oils to be used for massages, creams, lotions, lip balms, rubs, and sugar scrubs.
My three carrier oils…
The three most common carrier oils most oilers tend to use are olive oil, coconut oil, or Young Living V-6 oil (you can technically use any vegetable based oil as a carrier oil). When I first began using Young Living essential oils, I diluted my oils with olive oil. Nothing fancy, just the plain ole’ organic extra virgin olive oil that we cook with. I used olive oil for a long time because it was simple and something we already had on hand.
As time went on, I became curious about other types of carrier oils and wondered if there was one that I would like better than another. Coconut oil was the second carrier oil that I tried. My hubby and I love coconut oil as a carrier oil! Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, which makes it a perfect carrier oil to use when making essential oil based creams, lotions, rubs, lip balms, sugar scrubs, etc. Coconut oil is easier to apply and seems to do a better job of moisturizing the skin than olive oil does, which makes it a great choice for my hubby is applying essential oils to his troubled legs.
My most recent purchase includes Young Living’s V-6 vegetable oil complex. V-6 is an organic carrier oil that is a combination of several different carrier oils (coconut oil, sesame seed oil, grape seed oil, sweet almond oil, sweet germ oil, sunflower seed oil, and olive oil). I love V-6 oil because it nourishes the skin, has a long shelf life, doesn't clog pores, and will not stain clothes. Depending on how we want to use our essential oils, my hubby and I will likely stick with coconut oil and Young Living V-6 vegetable oil complex as our carrier oils (and use olive oil as our back-up).
Here are some tips for purchasing your carrier oils…
Olive oil: purchase organic extra virgin olive oil. You should be able to find this at your grocery store.
Coconut oil: purchase organic, raw, cold pressed coconut oil. High quality coconut oil (organic, raw, cold pressed) can be difficult to find in a grocery store.
Young Living V-6 enhanced vegetable oil complex can be purchased through Young Living.

How to Use Essential Oils

there are three basic ways to use essential oils: inhalation, topical application, and internal consumption.

inhalation:

The inhalation of essential oils heightens the senses and can trigger numerous desired responses in the body. Below are several techniques used to inhale essential oils:
1.   Direct inhalation-simply smell them.
2.   Diffuse the oils using a Young Living diffuser which disperses the oil in a micro-fine vapor into the air. The Young Living diffuser will not heat the oils, thus ensuring full benefits, as extreme heat can damage important constituents in the oil.
3.   Fill a humidifier with water. Put a tissue or small cloth, sprinkled with a few drops of oil, in front of the escaping steam. ( Do not put oil in your humidifier. It will float on top of the water instead of rising with the water vapor and may cause damage to your humidifier.)
4.   Carefully pour hot water into a bowl and add a few drops of oil. Cover your head and bowl in a tent-like fashion with a towel. Breathe deeply and slowly.

topical application:

Apply essential oils directly onto the skin where indicated. Dilute with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or a pure vegetable oil (e.g., olive or almond ) before applying if dilution is indicated in the Application Chart. Dilution may protect against possible skin sensitivities. Key points of application on the body are:
To apply topically on any of these areas, follow these simple steps:
1. Carefully tip the oil bottle and drop 2-3 drops in the palm of the hand or directly on the desired application area.
2. If dropping oil in your hand, rub palms together in a circular motion and then massage oil onto the desired point of application. If applying directly to the desired area, use your hand to massage the oil in a circular motion into the skin. Repeat if desired.
Attention: Essential oils are very potent, and some may be irritating to the skin. If irritation occurs, immediately apply V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or pure vegetable oil to the area to dilute. Please read label directions for each individual oil before using.
You can also create your own massage oil blends by mixing your favorite essential oils with V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or by using Young Living’s pre-mixed massage oil blends (e.g., Relaxation, Ortho Ease) to relax, uplift, soothe, and relieve.
Where to Topically Apply Essential Oils:
  • Crown of head
  • Temples
  • Behind ears
  • Neck
  • Upper back
  • Abdomen
  • Over vital organs
  • Soles and top of feet

internal consumption:

Suggested internal consumption methods:
1.  Put several drops of oil into an empty capsule and swallow with water.
2.  Add 1-2 drops to a glass of water or rice milk.
3.  Put 1-2 drops onto a piece of bread or add to your meals when cooking.
4.  Add 1-2 drops onto a teaspoon of Blue Agave and swallow.
5.  Drop directly onto the tongue and swallow. Exercise extreme caution when using this method. Many oils are very strong and should be tested by pouring a single drop onto a spoon and tasting a small portion to determine the amount of oil to be used.
Young Living essential oils are pure, which makes them powerful and effective. For the responsible use of essential oils, read the complete label on each bottle and follow the safety guidelines and tips found in the Essential Oils User’s Guide.

Raindrop on young child with Scoliosis

Testimony of Raindrop Technique Oils on a Young Child with Severe Scoliosis
I’ve posted a few articles on my blog on the advantages of Raindrop Technique but I wanted to share something about Raindrop on a more personal level.
I have a niece, now almost 7; she had a traumatic birth and developed some complications.  They ran a myriad of tests (MS, Downs, etc.), none of them came back “positive,” but eventually they diagnosed her with neuromuscular issues.  Because of the neuromuscular issues, she began to develop scoliosis (I think before the age of 2 if I remember correctly) and it got progressively worse as time went on.  She was taken to several doctors, they began doing physical therapy with her, etc., got a brace for her legs and her back, which were both uncomfortable for a 2 year old to wear, or for her to even understand why she needed to wear them.
When she was almost 5 the Lord led me to Young Living Essential Oils, through Sharnael Wolverton’s website, www.Swiftfire.org .  I had learned that Young Living’s essential oils had therapeutic benefits but I didn’t know about the Raindrop Technique until I started doing more research.
About this same time the doctors told my sister that her daughter had a 55% curve and were advising that she have surgery to put rods along her spine, which would need to be repeated as she grew.  This was not an option that my sister wanted to consider – for many, many reasons – and she started doing some research.
Once I found out about the Raindrop Technique I told my sister about the oils and suggested she come to visit me for a while, bring my nieces, and I would also talk to my chiropractor about seeing my niece as a patient.  As a chiropractor, he knew he could help her scoliosis but he was clear with me that scoliosis needed to be treated long term, quite intensely at first, then very regularly for the rest of their life.  He understood my sister’s situation and was willing to see my niece as a patient and suggested that she come visit for at least 6 weeks, longer if possible.  My sister worked it out for them to visit for just over 6 weeks and I set up the appointments.
I also ordered my first Raindrop Technique kit.
Chiropractic Care and Essential Oils-Raindrop
As soon as the Raindrop kit arrived I opened it up and watched the full-length DVD that comes with it of Dr. D. Gary Young demonstrating the Raindrop Technique in a classroom setting.  He goes through every step, describing what he is doing, what oils he is using, the many benefits of each oil, and why it was chosen to be in the kit.  I realized that anyone who wanted to do a Raindrop treatment on a family member or friend would be able to just “follow along” with the DVD.
After my sister and her daughters arrived, we waited until after her initial consultation with the chiropractor, then we began to do Raindrop treatments on my niece twice a week.  The chiropractor wanted to see her twice a week also, so the process began.  Valor was applied on her spine every morning, and her feet using Vita-Flex.  She also got a massage every evening with Ortho Ease Massage Oil.
My sister had several sets of x-rays of my niece prior to chiropractic treatment, and then the chiropractor took a few more at the end of 6 weeks.  Here are the x-rays of “before” and “after” treatment.  The x-rays are not digital, they are the film type so these are actually photographs taken of the x-rays on the light board so they have a bit of a glare on them.  The “before” x-ray is a lot clearer than the “after” because of the glare, so I drew a line off to the side of her spinal curve in the “after” x-ray to show the progress after 6 weeks of treatments.  She also grew 1 ½ inches during the 6 weeks due to her curve straightening out.
Before                                                                                          After
2012 08 08 front unbraced                           2013 02 28 with line diagram
There are no chiropractors convenient to where my sister lives, but she continues to give her daughter regular Raindrop treatments, at least weekly, sometimes twice a week if her schedule permits.  Each treatment takes about 45 minutes to an hour, and within about 6 months of the combined chiropractic and Raindrop treatments, my niece no longer needs to wear a lift in one of her shoes – her hips had been uneven because of the curve in her lower back, so the Raindrop Technique treatments continue the healing process of the scoliosis, even without the chiropractic adjustments.  Combining the two modalities of treatment would allow the correction to happen more quickly, but that isn’t an option for my niece right now.
I am not a doctor, and I am not diagnosing, advising or offering a cure.  This article is written with the intent to share our story.  Please consult with your health care provider, seek out a reputable chiropractor, and discover for yourself that there is relief for scoliosis.
I’m writing this article to encourage you, or anyone you may know with scoliosis or any other form of back injury, that Raindrop is very effective in bringing about healing, and it is something that you can do at home.  In this day and time of increased health care costs isn’t it wonderful to know there are alternatives out there?

Raindrop Technique

massage raindrop

 Who doesn’t love a massage?
If you have not experienced a Young Living Raindrop Massage, you don’t know what you are missing!
The purpose of this technique is both relaxing and therapeutic. The technique is a combination of aromatherapy at its best with a bit of Swedish massage, Vitaflex (an ancient Tibetan technique) and Feather Stroke which comes from Native America.  The treatment involves a sequence of Young Living’s Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils dropped like raindrops onto the feet and along the back and spine.
Why do this?

The treatment promotes spinal alignment, energy balance which aids in circulation. The Young Living Essential Oils used are have powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-bacterial properties. This will aid in flushing out toxins, ridding the body of microbes lying dormant (which can be the culprits behind pain, illness,  and spinal mis-alignment).
The feather stroke wakes up the nervous system allowing the nerve receptors to receive the healing essential oils and to move them around the body. Vitaflex is used on the spinal flex points of the feet. This can aid in lymphatic circulation and drainage.  The treatment doesn’t end when it is over.
The Raindrop Massage benefits can last up to 7 days.

Vitaflex Feet

Who Can Benefit?

Everyone! This is therapy is great for boosting the immune system, many of the oils have anti-oxidant properties. The Raindrop Technique can help ward off infection or prevent it with recent exposure. It is a great for detoxification so could be used to help eliminate petrochemical from the body. This works great for pain relief (sciatica, Fibromyalgia, chronic back pain, headaches). The treatment has been helpful for people with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD, Autism just to name a few. The Raindrop Technique is also wonderful to experience for general relaxation!

Family Fav - YL PEPPERMINT ESSENTIAL OIL

My fwen called it her 'Mighty Oil'
My family use it a lot for any digestive issues like stomachache
feeling nauseous - just place 1 drop into the palm of the hand and rub onto the belly in a clockwise motion.
Hold the hands on the belly for around 30 seconds.
I also find 1 drop of peppermint oil in a cup of warm water great for the sinuses as well as a good “pick me up”!
We’ve also used Peppermint oil in warm water to give immediate relief from UTI’s ( Urinary Tract Infections)
For a blocked nose, simply inhale the oil direct from the bottle and you’ll be clear in no time.
Rub into the temples for headache relief.
If you’ve overeaten, place a drop under the tongue or rub onto the belly for quick relief.
Diffuse peppermint oil when studying. It can improve concentration levels. Taking the oil with you to an exam will then encourage recall of your study! For any general aches and pains – just rub into the body
(do not use on any open wounds)

FROM MY FWEN LIZA ALI ON HOW SHE USE THE YL OILS FOR HER FAMILY

For friends who have PM-ed me to ask about the oils I use to manage my kids' (and mine) cough, runny/blocked nose & phlegm, I will explain how I use them here.

Thieves - highly effective against airborne bacteria and to be highly effective in supporting the immune system and good health. I apply on their soles whenever they have cough or runny/blocked nose. Diffuse in the room. I also apply on their soles daily before going to school to protect them from getting sick easily.

RC - gives relief from colds, bronchitis, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs and respiratory congestion. Decongests sinus passages, combats lung infections and relieves allergy symptoms. Apply on soles, chest and back. Diffuse in the room.

Peppermint - has a strong, clean, fresh, minty aroma. Applied on their soles, chest and back when they have fever. Effectively brings the temperature down. Great replacement for panadols when I have headaches too.

Myrrh - Used on their soles, chest and back to tackle phlegm problems.

Breathe Again - My favourite. Smells great. A blend of oils specially formulated to support respiratory health. Contains four powerful eucalyptus oils: Eucalyptus staigeriana, Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus radiata, and Young Living's Eucalyptus blue. Eucalyptus oils contain high amounts of cineole, which has been studied for its potential to support healthy lung function. Well-known for supporting the respiratory system, the eucalyptus oils in Breathe Again aid in awakening the airwaves and opening the nasal passages. By rubbing Breathe Again on the chest or under the nose, it is designed to promote healthy sinus function.

So there, the basic oils that helped my kids so much.

For those who are still searching for alternative healing to drugs, why wait? Come join Young Living.

LAVENDER - THE SWISS ARMY KNIFE OILS

Known as the gentle giant who can do it all, when in doubt, oilers use lavender. But oilers also know that there is a whole lot of imposture lavender out there parading about as the real thing. That’s why you need a trusted company like Young Living with over 20 years of reputation for being the best and the purest in the industry. For the young and old and everyone in between, “wavender” fixes our booboos, calms our anxiety, soothes our burns, and stops our allergies in their tracks. Every household should have several bottles of this oil lying around. You don’t have one yet? COme try the Lavender EO for a start especially if you have kids.

How do we use Essential OIls

You can use essential oils, also commonly referred to as EOs, aromatically, topically, internally or around the home. I usually put 1 drop of essential oil on my hand, rub my hands together, cup them close to my face and inhale eight times. Breathing deeply and slowly, I imagine the healing essence seeping through every cell of my physical, emotional and spiritual being. Sometimes we forget the importance of breathing properly.
Breathe…
I love diffusing essential oils, though certain oils like vetiver which is quite thick and syrupy may not be suitable for diffusing. I also prefer not to diffuse certain oils like eucalyptus or peppermint as I find that it stings my eyes. I adore my home diffuser so much that I now have bought three… but the girls accidentally broke one, oops! So now we have one for the girls’ room, and the other one oscillates between the living room and my bedroom.
“When therapeutic-grade essential oils are inhaled either by cold air diffusing or by cupping the hands over the nose and inhaling deeply several times, the tiny molecules absorb easily into the delicate membranes of the nostrils and travel up to the brain, stimulating the amygdala which is the emotional center of the brain.” ~ Frances Fuller
I also add a few drops of essential oil into the girls’ bath, especially when they’re sick. By the way, never heat essential oils. It alters the molecular structure of the oil and will affect its therapeutic properties. Adding it to a warm bath is fine, but heating it up is a big no-no.

HOw a mummy help to heal her son Eczema

How I Helped Heal my Son’s Eczema!

by WE STOPPED POPPING PILLS on JULY 4, 2013

How I Helped Heal my Son’s Eczema in Only 2 Weeks! In June 2013, my 20 month old son started to break out with Eczema on his shoulders and underarms.  The Eczema continued to spread to both of his thighs.  I chose not to use prescription medication for his Eczema, so I used a combination of Young Living products to help heal his skin.I used four Young Living essential oils: LavenderMelroseFrankincense, and Melaleuca Alternifolia (tea tree oil).  I put 20 drops of each of the oils into an empty 15 mL bottle.  I placed 4 drops of the blend and 1 pump of V-6 Vegetable Oil in my hand.  I applied it to all of his affected areas.  Then I applied Tender Tush on top to keep the area moist.  I repeated these steps in the morning and night.  I also used Melaleuca-Geranium Soap when giving my son a bath.
After the first week, the Eczema on my son’s shoulders and underarms were mostly gone and it was fading on his legs.  By the end of two weeks, my son was completely healed and Eczema free.  My husband and I were so excited with these fast healing results.
